There has been social unrest for months as a result of the high inflation that exceeds 10 percent.

The London Tube has been hit by a combined 24-hour strike by subway drivers and station staff. In the United Kingdom, hundreds of thousands of workers from various sectors again went on strike on Wednesday to demand higher wages. Another demonstration is planned for later near Westminster, where British Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt will present his budget to Parliament.

Trade unions Asle and RMT are taking action in protest against pension reforms and planned job losses. Transport for London (TfL) urged passengers to check their route before travelling, as virtually the entire tube network is closed and other services are likely to be much busier and subject to disruptions and delays.

London commuters face a day of transport chaos.

Roads in parts of the city were expected to be extremely congested, slowing down buses, while TfL warned of possible disruptions to parts of the Elizabeth line and London Overground, where stations are shared with Tube stops. About 10.000 RMT members at stations are on a simultaneous strike, the seventh in the capital in just over a year.

The Tube network will be disrupted until Thursday morning, when a national rail strike by the RMT at major operators will also affect other rail services to London, including the outer sections of the Elizabeth line. RMT and Aslef members are embroiled in a dispute over job cuts, pensions and benefits. The RMT said the cuts were a "political decision".
