FlixTrain, the affordable train service known for its fast and sustainable mobility solutions, has expanded its network to the Netherlands.
Thanks to close cooperation with regional transport partners in Germany, travellers can now easily travel to and from the Netherlands for the first time with a FlixTrain combi-ticket. According to the digital magazine Personenvervoer, the expansion focuses on connections between major cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and three strategic locations in the Netherlands: Arnhem, Enschede and Venlo.
With this extension you can FlixTrain travellers access to more than 550 destinations in Germany and the Netherlands, with the option of only one transfer. This development means a significant increase in travel options for millions of passengers, according to Matthias Müller, Managing Director of FlixTrain. “Thanks to the new partnership, more than 18 million additional people will have access to cheap and fast long-distance connections. It is particularly exciting that we can now also add the Netherlands to our network, allowing Dutch passengers to book tickets to more than 500 German destinations,” said Müller.
wide network
The new network covers a wide range of cities in Germany, spread across several regions. In North Rhine-Westphalia, popular destinations such as Bonn, Düsseldorf Airport, Dortmund Airport and Oberhausen will be connected. In East Westphalia and Münsterland, cities such as Herford, Paderborn and Detmold will have a direct connection to the FlixTrain network. Border regions such as Bergisches Land and the Ruhr area will also benefit from these new connections, with stops in Solingen, Bottrop and Mülheim (Ruhr) among others. For travellers in the Netherlands, there are boarding points in Arnhem, Enschede and Venlo, which are directly connected to the extensive German network.

FlixTrain is known for its commitment to sustainability and affordable mobility. The train company offers a cheaper alternative to other long-distance carriers, without compromising on comfort. Every passenger is guaranteed a seat when booking a ticket, a service that is unique in the German market. Furthermore, the travel times are competitive. For example, a trip from Arnhem to Berlin takes only 6 hours and 20 minutes and can be booked from €25. This makes FlixTrain an attractive option for both holidaymakers and business travelers.
The expansion into the Netherlands is an important milestone in FlixTrain's growth. The company is not only focusing on cross-border travel, but is also strengthening its position as a sustainable mobility provider in Europe. The company uses electric trains, which significantly reduces CO2 emissions per passenger compared to traveling by car or plane.
booking options
Travelers can easily plan their journey using combined tickets, which provide access to both FlixTrain regional trains and long-distance services. These tickets are available via the official FlixTrain website or the FlixBus & FlixTrain app. The booking system is intuitive and provides real-time information on routes, prices and availability.
The new service will allow travellers to travel easily from Enschede to cities such as Cologne, Bonn or Hamburg. It will also make it easier for German travellers to plan a trip to the Netherlands, for example to visit Arnhem or Venlo. The expansion will also provide an economic boost for the connected cities, by stimulating tourism and cross-border trade.
further expansion
Although FlixTrain is currently focused on consolidating the new connections, further expansion does not seem to be ruled out. The company continues to invest in its network and is exploring opportunities to include even more cities in the Netherlands and other European countries. With the growing awareness of climate change and the increasing demand for affordable and sustainable transport options, FlixTrain seems well-positioned to play a key role in the future of European travel.
Müller emphasizes that the expansion into the Netherlands was a natural step in the company’s growth. “We want to make sustainable mobility accessible to everyone, regardless of destination. This expansion is a logical step to achieve that goal,” he says.
