After years of closed lanes and broken pavements, Rotterdammers can make full use of the Coolsingel again. The well-known street in the center where the town hall is located has been given a major overhaul and will be officially opened on Saturday.
“In three years' time, the Coolsingel has been transformed into a boulevard with monumental allure and an international appearance,” said the City of Rotterdam. There is more room for cyclists and pedestrians on the renewed Coolsingel. They can go to a wide cycle path and a pedestrian promenade. There are also raised parks with plants and an edge to sit on.
There is room for cars on two lanes on the side of the town hall. 77 new plane trees rose along the tram track, which remained unchanged. The renovation of the arterial road cost 58,1 million euros. Because a largest opening is not possible due to the corona virus, the municipality has set up a photo exhibition on the promenade to celebrate it. The photos have been submitted by Rotterdammers.
