Municipalities and police expect another very busy day after hundreds of thousands of people have left for the coast again. Added to this are the tropical temperatures that cause congested roads to the cooling beaches in all seaside resorts. But in the south and southeast of the country it gets extremely hot, with temperatures of 35 degrees or higher.

Not only in the Netherlands it is tropically warm, England also has high temperatures. The highest temperature on Saturday was 34,5 ° C - measured at Frittenden in Kent, Wiggonholt in West Sussex and Herstmonceux in East Sussex. London saw Friday's highest temperatures with Heathrow Airport a sweltering 36,4 ° C and the mercury hitting 36,3 ° C in Kew Gardens. Gatwick Airport and Cambridge also recorded times of 33C, while Wiggonholt in West Sussex reached 32,9C.

The heat quickly became crowded on the roads towards the coast. From the Malieveld in The Hague it was a question of queuing up to the overcrowded car park on the Scheveningse Boulevard where after more than an hour of waiting they had to turn around. There was not a single side street in the seaside town where one could still drive because all German tourists, except for a few Belgians, had flocked to Scheveningen. After the car parks were closed, everyone searched in vain for a parking space in the neighborhoods.

The highest temperature in the Netherlands since the start of the measurements is 40.7 ° C on July 25, 2019 in Gilze-Rijen in North Brabant. Never before has the temperature in the Netherlands exceeded 40 ° C. It will also remain hot on Monday, but there is also a chance of a downpour, possibly with thunderstorms and gusts of wind. The hot summer weather is likely to last until Thursday.
