The second and last part of the Stationsplein bicycle parking is ready. This makes Utrecht the largest bicycle parking facility in the world. The parking facility under the Stationsplein offers space for 12.500 bicycles. From then on, a cycle path also runs through the underground parking garage from Smakkelaarsveld to Moreelsepark.

The garage has three floors. The lower and upper levels are for so-called day stallers. These users can park their bicycle for free for the first 24 hours. The ground floor is for subscription holders.

When building the largest bicycle parking facility in the world, 51.000 m3 of soil had to be moved. Afterwards 17.500 m3 of concrete was used. The floor space of the garage is more than 21.000 m2 and the garage rests on piles that together have a length of 25 kilometers. The wooden slats against the wall of the garage have a combined area of ​​over 4.000 m2.

The municipality of Utrecht, ProRail, NS and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management have invested in the parking facility. The garage cost more than 30 million euros. The municipality has paid 20 percent of this amount.
