Yesterday Kiwa issued the first certificates in the context of the new inspection requirement KE 214 "Suitability for admixture up to 100% hydrogen gas". This test requirement contains requirements for components used in hydrogen gas networks. Nine manufacturers received the KE 214 certificate from Kiwa's Ronald Karel and Bart Vogelzang, chairman of the Board of Experts.

Hydrogen is a promising alternative to natural gas. For example, research by Kiwa shows that existing natural gas infrastructures can be converted relatively easily for hydrogen distribution. As manager of the GASTEC QA quality mark, Kiwa anticipates this with the Test Requirement (KE) 214 'Suitability for admixture up to 100% hydrogen gas'.

There are now twelve manufacturers whose products meet the quality and functional requirements of KE 214: egeplast, gAvilar, Georg Fischer Waga, HSF, Pipelife, Georg Fischer Wavin AG, Sanha Fittings, Kleiss & Co, GrainPlastics, KZ Measuring & Control equipment, Hawle and Isiflo.

KE 214 has formulated requirements for components used in a network with hydrogen gas. For example, pressure regulators, valves and valves for natural gas can react differently and work in combination with hydrogen gas. Manufacturers wishing to certify their products against KE 214 must already have a GASTEC QA certificate or be able to achieve both labels simultaneously in one process.
