Rail traffic has been disrupted at the track since 22 p.m. yesterday evening. Only one in three trains run. The 24-hour strike is an action by the socialist and liberal unions. The Christian railway union does not participate, but does support the demands of the other unions.

The rail strike will last 24 hours from Wednesday evening 22 p.m. to Thursday evening 22 p.m. The strike comes at the initiative of the socialist union ACOD. Two smaller unions, the liberal union VSOA and the Independent Union for Rail Personnel (OVS), also joined the call. The Christian railway union, ACV-Transcom, has not actively called on its members to strike. The union now opts for informing and raising awareness, from January other actions are possible, it sounds.

“The requirements of the management are nevertheless logical in themselves. The core of the personnel statute at NMBS dates back to 1926. That makes it difficult to implement a flexible personnel policy, ”says Etienne Schouppe (CD&V), who was head of the Belgian railways from 1986 to 2002.
