Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort (PS) has announced in the Internal Affairs Committee that he will offer Brussels taxi drivers and drivers of car rentals with drivers 3.000 euros help to compensate for the income lost due to the corona crisis.

It is therefore less than the bonus of 4000 euros that is granted to companies and self-employed people who are forced to close after the containment measures. A budget of 4,5 million euros was allocated for this. But this difference can be explained by the fact that the taxi and LVC sectors have already benefited from an initial financial boost from the Brussels government.

Brussels treasury thus loses one and a half million euros

This concerns 1.591 operators who can benefit from this advantage. The measure will be submitted to the Council of Ministers on Thursday and is likely to be approved there. The Brussels government has already decided to scrap the annual regional tax for taxis (575 euros) and limousine hire with driver (682 euros).

The taxi drivers employed by an employer have long been able to count on technical unemployment. However, the self-employed drivers, who made the necessary investments to comply with the hygiene regulations, fell by the wayside.

The union ACV Transcom found that independent taxi drivers operating in Brussels to work they should be given the opportunity to stop their activities during the corona crisis. In this way they could appeal to the economic support measures.
