Most companies are severely affected by the corona crisis, among others PostNL is a completely different story, it looks like an online shop explosion. Revenues from the growth of parcel delivery rose sharply in the first quarter of 2020 as a result of the corona crisis and the merger with Sandd. Turnover grew in the first quarter from 398 million euros to 414 million euros. International parcel flow has declined, however, due to the global coronavirus outbreak.

Because of the coronavirus, many more people order everything online, which means that PostNL is much busier. According to PostNL, volume growth of over 11 percent was seen in March for packages ordered online. Many stores also had to close due to the corona measures and as a result, more were bought online. The letterbox mail has fallen by 3 percent in the first 12,3 months. This item has been dropping for years, but now even more than usual due to the corona crisis. More greeting cards are sent to family and friends, but companies send much less advertising mail.

Because of the enormous growth in packages, all sails had to be added and the capacity was increased by 40 percent, and they also set up something to deploy people as mail deliverers or mail sorters, for those who are temporarily out of work due to the corona crisis. PostNL has taken over postal company Sandd as of February 1, this brought turnover but also costs. How the parcel delivery will continue in this uncertain future remains to be seen.

CEO Herna Verhagen says: "However, the prospects for the future are limited and the uncertainties surrounding the duration and severity of the pandemic determine whether PostNL can actually realize this expectation."
