TUI fly reportedly wants to cut a thousand jobs. According to the TUI spokesperson for the German TUI in Hanover, the company will also halve the Boeing 737 fleet. Given the current market conditions in the aviation sector, TUI fly would be able to cope with far fewer aircraft and there is no longer any need for a large proportion of the 39 stationary Boeing 737 aircraft. It is good that TUI is thinking about it.

a thousand jobs

According to insiders, according to news agency Reuters, it concerns 270 pilots, 430 cabin crew, 190 technicians and 100 office staff. Markus Wahl of the Vereinigug Cockpit (VC), the German union for pilots and cabin crew, says that the top of TUI fly should talk to the union soon.

The aviation industry has been hit hard lately. First the troubles surrounding the Max and now an almost complete standstill of air traffic due to the worldwide measures in aviation. According to reports from the Boeing 737 division, this would now involve postponement of deliveries of the B737 MAX while some of the 737 NGs will be phased out.

The B737 MAX will be phased in according to flexible agreements with Boeing sometime over the next 2 years, depending on further market developments. Incidentally, according to Reuters' report, this concerns TUI fly Germany. In the Netherlands, a lot of extra capacity is hired annually in the summer. That makes TUI fly Netherlands a lot more flexible anyway.

mixed feelings

The feeling with such messages from aviation is often double. Many people also feel satisfied. Just a pity that it took a corona pandemic to finally curb the unlimited growth of aviation and to curb CO2 emissions.
