The Bicycle Platform recently launched the renewed LF Coastal Route, a Long-Distance Cycling Route that is ideally suited for a cycling holiday. The route is part of a series of planned LF icon routes. The route is 610 kilometers long and follows the Dutch coastline. Because of the corona, an online launch was chosen; the website www.lfkustroute.nl, app and bicycle guide are now also available.

With the renewed LF Coastal Route, a cycling holiday is even more fun, easier and more attractive. The highlights on the route enhance the experience. And by offering smart products, a cycling holiday becomes more accessible. Consider, for example, an app on which you can see all accommodation addresses on the route. Cycling along the Dutch coast means cycling with the wind in your hair. Sometimes there is a tailwind, sometimes a headwind, but you always 'taste' the wonderful coastal feeling. With the arrival of this third LF icon route, previously the LF Maas route and LF Zuiderzee route were already opened, the summer is ready for many kilometers of cycling holiday pleasure.

'The recreational cycling network is used intensively during the summer months. This year it can get busier than other years. Many people have a cycling holiday high on their wish list, but it often does not happen. This is the moment now that the holiday period is imminent and the possibilities for a holiday abroad due to the coronavirus are more limited. With the arrival of this third LF icon route, we hope to give the final push, 'said Eric Nijland, director of the Landelijk Fietsplatform, initiator of the route.

The latest figures from the Continuous Leisure Survey (CVTO), the Continuous Holiday Survey (CVO) of NBTC-NIPO research and the study of bicycle treks from the Rural cycling platform shows that 21% of the Dutch in their own country prefers an active holiday. Almost half of them go for a cycling holiday, making this type of holiday the most popular in the Netherlands. All these millions of cyclists not only get on their bikes, they also get off en masse, for a drink, snack or shelter. Recreational cyclists spend more than 2,4 billion euros annually on their hobby. More than 1,2 billion euros will be spent en route in the region.
