The SNCB card with free train rides that everyone gets is postponed until September. That is one of the measures taken by the Security Council. From Wednesday 29 July, additional measures will apply in Belgium for at least the next month. Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès (MR) is convinced that the new stricter corona measures will stop the spread of the virus in Belgium.

social bubble is considerably reduced

In the coming month, a family bubble may have a maximum of 5 permanent contacts, excluding children under 12 years of age. Shopping is also becoming stricter again and a registration requirement for sports lessons and wellness centers will be introduced. The social bubble is getting smaller because a family bubble will be allowed to have maximum contact with 5 other adults, excluding children, in the coming month.

"If everyone adheres to this, we will get the virus back under control in four weeks", says epidemiologist Pierre Van Damme.

Virologist Marc Van Ranst is also satisfied with the decisions of the National Security Council. "The new measures are very strict, but that was necessary to stop a second wave," said Van Ranst in the VTM News. Biostatistician Geert Molenberghs calls it “a powerful decision”. “Nobody likes to do this, but this is what we asked for,” he says in the News on number one. "It is now up to everyone to follow this up, and the statisticians to keep an eye on the curves," it sounds.
