The Ministry of Health in Spain reports that the number of corona infections has risen sharply in Barcelona and its suburbs (Greater Barcelona) in the past seven days. The number of corona infections is almost seven times more than last month. Earlier, there was a major outbreak in the meat industry around the Catalan city of Leida. Since yesterday, the Netherlands has changed the travel advice to Barcelona and its peripheral municipalities (Greater Barcelona) from code yellow to code orange.

The advice from our government has been changed on the website The Netherlands worldwide, this advice may change from day to day and people are advised to check this website daily before traveling. The advice from the Dutch government at the moment is: only travel to these areas if necessary. Tourist visits are therefore strongly discouraged.

In addition to Greater Barcelona, there is still a high risk of corona contamination in the Segrià region, which is why this area is still marked orange. The urgent advice from the government when you return from these areas in Spain is that you must be quarantined at home for 14 days. In the Aragón region (travel advice color code yellow), stricter measures are in force. For example, residents should stay at home as much as possible. Restaurants and terraces are open limited. Traffic to and from the Segrià region (Lleida and the surrounding area) is prohibited, except for immediate transit on the highway. Developments can follow each other at a rapid pace.

Great Britain previously announced negative travel advice to the Spanish mainland. Belgium has only designated parts of Catalonia and Aragon as a red zone. France also issued a negative travel advice to Catalonia last Friday. We have to wait and see how it all develops, let's hope we don't start from scratch.
