In the midst of the electrical storm for public transport buses, other fuels are still in great demand, such as CNG. Warsaw public transport company Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (MZA) has placed an order for 70 CNG low-floor city buses, of course from the Polish manufacturer Solaris. The total value of the contract is more than PLN 116 million or EUR 26,7 million.

The ordered consists of 40 Solaris Urbino 12 CNG and 30 articulated Solaris Urbino 18 CNG buses. The total tank capacity will exceed 12 liters in 1500-meter CNG buses, and 18 liters in 1700-meter articulated buses. In addition to, among other things, a video surveillance system with cameras that monitor both the passenger compartment and the driver's cabin and the area in front of the vehicle, an alcohol ignition lock will be installed.

The driver will have a closed cabin with a separate entrance to limit the driver's contact with passengers and thus minimize the risk of infection. In 12-meter buses, the total passenger capacity is 90 people, while articulated buses can accommodate 135 passengers.

MZA already has 91 electric buses and 145 CNG buses. Upon completion of all planned deliveries by the end of 2022, it will be 160 electric buses and 305 CNG buses. This will account for nearly 50 percent of buses that leave Warsaw's streets on a weekday. The first Solaris Urbino CNG buses will reach Warsaw in April next year. Deliveries of all 70 units must be completed by mid-2021. Upon completion, the total number of Solaris buses in the fleet of the Warsaw operator MZA will reach more than 1100 vehicles.
