Petra Kok, head of communication at the travel organization TUI thinks these are 'firm statements' from the new top woman of the NS Marian Rintel. Petra admits that it may sound a bit strange from a company that also has aircraft in service, but they think this is great! Rail developments to England and various destinations in Germany are also encouraging. Steps on the road to more sustainable travel, on a road that is still long.

“We like to work together wherever it is possible to get people on the train and off the plane. Within 700 km the train should be preferred, good connections are then necessary. Pre-corona we have already taken a first step by simply not offering city trips to Paris by plane, only by train or own transport ”, says Petra Kok in a response to her LinkedIn.

During the interview in the AD we read that train passengers from 2024 will be half an hour faster to Berlin and Brussels. New comfortable trains will be running on both routes, the Dutch Railways announced on Thursday. For example, travelers should be tempted to exchange short flights for rail. Various variants are on the table for the new connection to Brussels, whereby the travel time of nearly three hours from our capital will also be shortened by possibly as much as thirty minutes.

NS must get back on the map

Rintel, who succeeds Roger van Boxtel as CEO as of 1 October, becomes helmsman in a fierce period. At the end of June, NS announced that it had to cut up to 2300 jobs due to the corona crisis, without any forced redundancies.
