Last month, 26.461 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands, which is 21,5 percent less than in August 2019. The official figures from BOVAG, RAI Verenging and RDC show that registrations for the first eight months of 2020 are a quarter behind the same period. last year.

As a result of the corona crisis, car sales in the Netherlands have been erratic in recent months. After declines of more than 50 percent in April and May and nearly 40 percent in June, the number of new cars increased by 4 percent in July due to a delivery catch-up. However, August ends in a minor again, bringing the total of passenger car registrations in 2020 so far to 219.129.

In the same period last year, there were 293.043. BOVAG and RAI Association are currently assuming that 350.000 new cars will be registered this year, but the final total is mainly dependent on the developments surrounding the corona virus, both nationally and internationally. In the past six months, the Dutch car industry was not only confronted by a drop in demand, the lockdowns worldwide also meant that vehicles already ordered could not be delivered on time.
