The Municipality of The Hague is making an additional 300.000 euros available for the exchange scheme for dirty diesel cars and mopeds and light mopeds. This brings the total amount for this scheme, which will run until December 31, 2020, to 1.000.000 euros.

Alderman Liesbeth van Tongeren (Sustainability, Environment and Energy Transition) recently announced this in a message on the website of the Municipality of The Hague. Previously, 400.000 euros was already added to the successful scheme after the original 300.000 euros ran out. Residents who trade in their diesel car receive a credit of 1.000 euros. The demolition of a moped or light-moped results in a credit of 400 euros. Hagen residents with an Ooievaarspas receive 750 euros.

Van Tongeren: “The scheme is a great success. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 659 mopeds and light mopeds and 80 diesel cars have been returned. There are also hundreds of applications that are being processed. It turns out that more clean air is very important in The Hague! "

About the scheme

Owners of cars or mopeds who use the scheme can use the credit for an (electric) bicycle, an electric moped or light-moped or a card for traveling by public transport. The credit on the public transport card can also be used to rent a shared car or public transport bicycles.

The scheme is in line with the expansions of the environmental zones that will be gradually introduced in the coming years. As of December 1, 2020, two-stroke mopeds and light mopeds from before January 1, 2011 are no longer allowed to drive in The Hague.

Van Tongeren: “There are also entrepreneurs with questions about this scheme for more clean air in The Hague. They have now reported to the municipality. Together with them I want to look for a sustainable solution that works for everyone. ”

From mid-2021 there will be an environmental zone for diesels in the city center, where only passenger cars and vans from emission class 4 will be allowed. These are diesel cars with a year of construction from approximately 2006. For diesel trucks, the existing environmental zone will then be expanded, and from 2022 only trucks and buses with emission class 6 will be allowed there. These are vehicles built from approximately 2014.
