Last week, the drivers of De Lijn were thanked in a nice and original way by the fellow drivers of the car federation FBI for the excellent cooperation, good relationship and heartwarming team spirit. At the start of the new school year it became busier on the buses and trams of De Lijn. Despite the maximum use of all transport capacity and the review of the journey schedules, this unfortunately turned out to be insufficient.

That is why Minister Lydia Peeters decided to set up a collaboration with coach companies. This collaboration started on Monday October 5th. From then on, private buses ran behind the De Lijn buses, so they follow the same route and stopped at the same stops. Only when our vehicles started to get busy did you take a coach. You can easily recognize them by the label 'fortified ride '.

Before the autumn holidays there were already 211 coaches for reinforcement. From 16/11, after the autumn break, another 164 were added. That brings the total to 375 extra coaches per day, good for about 722 journeys.

“The collegiality and team spirit of De Lijnchauffeurs deserve praise!” Says a spokesperson for the Fbaa. "Because of Corona, unfortunately no handshake, no high five or hug, but a nice sticker on the coaches and a 'big thumb' for the drivers."

The Federation of Belgian Bus and Coach Entrepreneurs (FBAA) is the only Belgian professional association in the sector of paid collective road passenger transport. It has 350 members and represents 12.000 jobs.
