The integration plan 'N629 Oosterhout - Dongen' of the provincial councils of North Brabant will be maintained. The objections to the new provincial road connecting the municipalities of Dongen and Oosterhout are unfounded. This is stated in a decision of the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Council of State of 25 November 2020. With the new N629, the province wants to solve the problems on the existing N629 and improve the accessibility of the Everdenberg-East industrial estate in Dongen.

Usefulness and necessity
Environmental association Oosterhout and local residents had appealed against the zoning plan to the Administrative Jurisdiction Division. They have doubts about the usefulness and necessity of the new road. But studies show that the existing traffic nuisance on the N629 will increase further due to the arrival of new homes and the new business park in Dongen. The existing N629 is also not safe for traffic because relatively many accidents occur. Moreover, the quality of life for local residents will increase with the arrival of the new road due to improved air quality and less noise pollution. Provincial councils have therefore considered the new road useful and necessary, according to the Administrative Jurisdiction Division.

Nature
The rules in the provincial Regulation on space over nature do not stand in the way of the arrival of the new N629. Although the new road will cut through the so-called Nature Network Brabant, the integration plan shows that the conditions for this have been met. For example, there is a 'major public interest', because the new road will overcome traffic problems on the existing one N629 to resolve. There are also no suitable alternatives; all other alternatives would also affect the Nature Network Brabant. Moreover, the damage to nature is compensated by the construction of nature in the Oranjepolder, among others. In doing so, the provincial councils have adhered to the provincial rules for nature compensation, the Administrative Law Division finds.
