The aviation sector has been seriously affected by the consequences of the corona crisis, including Eindhoven Airport. The travel industry has been virtually at a standstill for some time, and the number of travelers has fallen to its lowest point. The advice of our cabinet is not to travel until at least mid-March, provided this is really necessary. Eindhoven Airport director Roel Hellemons looks back on an eventful year. There was much less air traffic to and from Eindhoven Airport last year. Still, the airport stuck to its strategy and adapted to the corona situation.

The number of travelers to and from Eindhoven Airport traveled was 2020 million in 2,1. That is a decrease compared to 2019 of no less than 69 percent. The number of flight movements at Eindhoven Airport in 2020 was 18.882, which is no less than 55% less than 2019. The number of destinations flown to is 83, which is six destinations less than in 2019. Eindhoven Airport reports this on their website. It remains to be seen what this year will bring, hopefully better times will soon come.

Roel Hellemons, director of Eindhoven Airport: “2020 was a very challenging year for all parties working in the aviation sector. Through close cooperation and coordination with our partners and with numerous measures, we have continued to fulfill our role as a connector with the world. We will start with positive energy in 2021. A year in which, in addition to challenges, we also have opportunities to make aviation more sustainable and to strengthen the role and position of Eindhoven Airport in consultation with the region. ”
