Outgrowth and split ends are no longer necessary in Flanders. The Consultation Committee has decided that the hairdressers can reopen on Saturday 13 February under strict conditions. The main reason for this is that personal care makes a positive contribution to the feeling of people during this lockdown. Other non-medical contact professions, such as beauty, massage and nail salons, can start again from 1 March. Nevertheless, there are strict conditions for a hairdresser visit in Belgium. A mandatory waiting time of 10 minutes between two treatments to ensure sufficient disinfection of the treatment room is one of them.

Customers have to wait outside and work is only allowed by appointment. Both hairdresser and client must wear a surgical mask. Reopening the hairdressers means that there will be 1 million extra close contacts per week that will be added. According to Steven Van Gucht of Sciensano, it is important that the measures are strictly observed. The virus is still circulating.
