Yesterday there was a lot of confusion about the curfew. Will curfews continue to apply in the Netherlands or not? The whole of the Netherlands is currently wondering this. Yesterday it seemed that the curfew would be lifted immediately. On Tuesday morning, the judge ruled in a lawsuit brought by activist group Virus Truth that the curfew had to be lifted immediately. The Preliminary Relief Judge ruled that the introduction of the curfew did not involve the special urgency required to be able to make use of the Extraordinary Powers of Civil Authority Act (Wbbbg). This Wbbbg was therefore implemented even though there was no special urgency required to be able to make use of this law, according to Rechtspraak.nl.

Yesterday, the cabinet immediately lodged an appeal and has requested the lifting of the curfew in the Netherlands. The court agreed with this, so that the curfew will now continue to apply until at least Friday, when the court will hear the appeal. The court will probably give a ruling on this on Friday. Yesterday evening, a new emergency law on the curfew was signed by the king and sent directly to the Council of State. This urgent law will be submitted to the Lower House today. This emergency law allows the curfew to continue. Fortunately there were no significant problems on the street after 21 pm last night, it remained quiet everywhere.
