Several train passengers have probably experienced it, unpleasant situations or feeling unsafe in the train or on the platform. The NS is continuously working on improving safety in and around the train, among other things. They consider it very important that passengers can travel comfortably and safely. It has now been more than a year since the Dutch railways introduced the Whatsapp/SMS Alert service for unpleasant situations.

“We want travelers to feel safe and to be able to rely on us easily. That is exactly what this alert contributes to. The need for the alert was especially great because of Corona. We got fewer passengers, so stations and trains were quieter. That may feel less pleasant. This was the logical moment to introduce the alert nationwide. Not only does it improve the safety experience of our travellers, it also provides us with important information about which station or route is more likely to be a nuisance. This information is analyzed by our specialists, after which we can take targeted measures. Think of deploying Safety & Service employees to immediately limit nuisance and ensure a pleasant train journey.”
