The valve of the Haringvliet bridge needs to be replaced, this project will last until 2023. The valve of the bridge must be replaced because it will reach the end of its life at the beginning of 2023. Preparations for replacing this valve are in full swing. As of today, Monday, August 23, the speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour on the Haringvliet Bridge has come into effect. Previously, you were allowed 100 kilometers per hour. The speed limit of 50 km/h applies in both directions and the lanes have also been narrowed in both directions. The parallel lane is also closed to cars and the Haringvliet bridge is only opened once a week for high traffic.

Last weekend the Haringvliet bridge was closed to furnish the bridge deck with the new measures. The measures are necessary because all the traffic that drives over the bridge creates vibrations, which can cause clamps or plates to come loose, with all the consequences that entails. The speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour should ensure that fewer vibrations occur and that it is possible to drive safely over the bridge in the coming years. Rijkswaterstaat reports that travelers, especially in the direction of Bergen op Zoom, should take into account delays during the evening rush hour.
