Last year, KLM was the safest airline in Europe, according to experts from the Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center (JACDEC). Worldwide, the Dutch company only has to tolerate Emirates. That company from the United Arab Emirates was also the safest in the annual survey the year before.

Emirates received a score of 95,05 percent from the JACDEC, which conducts its annual survey for the aviation magazine Aero International. KLM received 93,31 percent. The American airlines JetBlue and Delta Air Lines follow and Easyjet completes the top-5. Because there was considerably less flying due to the corona pandemic, crashes and incidents from the past counted more heavily than usual.

For the first time, the JACDEC also made continental lists because airlines with a strong home market such as China or the United States otherwise had a major advantage in terms of kilometers flown. In Europe, KLM topped the list, ahead of Finnair and Air Europa.

Transavia

KLM subsidiary Transavia came in fourth place. Some well-known airlines such as Austrian Airlines and Eurowings did not make the list at all because they made too few passenger kilometers last year. It is also striking that Emirates was not number one on its own regional list. The airline had to tolerate Etihad Airways, which did not make it onto the global list due to its size.
