Almost everyone in Eindhoven and the surrounding area knows exactly what you are talking about when you talk about the Berenkuil. De Berenkuil was founded in 1973 and is located near the University of Eindhoven, the Ijzeren man outdoor swimming pool and the Wasvenhoeve. De Berenkuil (or Insulindeplein) is a traffic circle in Eindhoven that has two floors: one on the ground floor for car traffic, and below that is a bicycle junction. The Berenkuil consists of tunnels that you can cycle and/or walk through and it looks like a real arena. The bicycle tunnels run under the highway from Eindhoven to Helmond.

Many cyclists and moped riders use this on a daily basis. The Berenkuil is also used as an "open air museum" because graffiti artists are allowed to do their thing. The most beautiful creations can be found here and the police do not act against the graffiti sprayers in the bear pit. Every day, a huge number of cyclists and mopeds use this important cycling junction, but since this week it has been closed and everyone will have to take a detour. The Berenkuil has been closed to cyclists for 18 weeks since July 8, they can use the diversions.

The reason for the closure is that there is work being done on the Eindhoven-Helmond cycle route. There will be a cycling route of 13,7 kilometers between Eindhoven Central Station and Helmond Central Station. Cycle routes, also known as express bicycle routes, are regional bicycle routes on which you can cycle comfortably and without delay from place A to place B. The routes provide better accessibility to commuting locations and are an important incentive for commuters to choose the bicycle in instead of the car. The municipality Eindhoven will realize the part between Eindhoven Central station and the Collse Hoefdijk in Nuenen. The section on the Professor Doctor Dorgelolaan has now been completed. After the Berenkuil, the part of Celebeslaan follows, 't Hofke north side-Wolvendijk, 't Hofke south side and Loosstraat.
