Many streets in the city center of The Hague are closed on Prinsjesdag. The Municipality of The Hague advises you to come to the city by bicycle or public transport. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and the Princess of Orange make the trip to the Koninklijke Schouwburg in the Glass Coach on Prince's Day. The Royal Procession departs from Noordeinde Palace at 13.00.

The route that the Glass Coach travels runs via Noordeinde, Heulstraat, Kneuterdijk, Lange Voorhout and Tournooiveld to the
Short Forewood. The carriage stops in front of the Koninklijke Schouwburg there. After the Speech from the Throne, the royal procession will return to Noordeinde Palace at 13.50 pm via the same route. The Royal Procession consists of members of the Royal House, members of the royal household and the Military Household. And in addition police on horseback, a music corps and various regiments of the army.

why third tuesday of september?

Prinsjesdag used to fall on the 1e Monday in November. Later on the 3e Monday in October. But there was not enough time left to finalize the budget plans for January 1. That is why Prinsjesdag was brought forward to the 1848 . in 3e Monday in September. In 1887 Prinsjesdag was moved to the 3e Tuesday of September. For many MPs the travel time to The Hague was long. In order to be in the Chamber in time for Prinsjesdag, they had to leave home on Sunday. This was particularly objectionable to members of Christian parties.

Between 1815 and 1904, the King (or Queen) delivered the Speech from the Throne in the meeting room of the House of Representatives. From 1904 the choice was made for the Ridderzaal on the Binnenhof in The Hague. In 2020 and 2021, the thrones were temporarily in the Grote Kerk. During the Speech from the Throne, Queen Máxima sits next to the King on a side throne.
