According to leading e-commerce and manufacturing companies in Europe, road transport has the highest priority to reduce CO2 emissions. A new report from Ipsos and Volvo Trucks shows that companies are willing to pay more for transport suppliers with lower CO2 emissions. On behalf of Volvo Trucks, research firm Ipsos surveyed 100 major e-commerce and manufacturing companies in eight European countries about their demand for fossil fuel-free transport in future tenders.

The vast majority of these companies have set targets to reduce their climate footprint. 78% of respondents say they are willing to pay more for a transport supplier with little or no CO2 emissions and 85% are willing to change transport supplier if it does not meet their requirements. The survey also shows a clear link between their future business opportunities and non-fossil fuel-free transportation options. 60% of companies believe they will lose customers in the next three years if they cannot meet consumer demand for low- or zero-carbon deliveries.

“It is very positive to see this big push for fossil-free truck transport. It means we will see a huge shift in the industry in the coming years. We believe that electrification will be the main driver for zero-emission road transport and we are proud that we already offer fully electric truck alternatives for most jobs. Electric driving means more business opportunities".

Volvo Trucks has set a global target that by 2030 50% of all new trucks sold will be battery or fuel cell electric. The transition to electric is being led by Europe and North America, where the targets are even higher. In Europe, for example, the target is currently around 70% for all new trucks sold by 2030.
