The mobility survey by Norstat (July 2022) commissioned by Tech company in parking solutions EasyPark among 1083 Dutch people who have a driving license shows that there are quite a few annoyances that make us prefer to leave the car. The top 5 annoyances include:

  1. Traffic jam 32%.
  2. Have to pay for parking 21%.
  3. Paying too much for parking 19%.
  4. Unable to find a parking space 16%.
  5. Have to park far away 12%.

Nearly a third (32 percent) of motorists are annoyed by having to drive at walking pace or by standing still in traffic jams. For this reason, 23 percent leave the car parked more often. Parking and the costs associated with it are also reasons for car drivers to take another mode of transport. Nineteen percent of motorists believe that they pay too much parking costs. The Netherlands now has an area the size of the island of Ameland where you have to pull out your wallet to park your car.

Pay per minute

If they opt for the car, 39 percent check the parking rates before going to the city. No fewer than 73 percent would like to be able to pay per minute at all parking facilities. In this way, the motorist can save quite a bit of money. 36 percent of motorists find city centers poorly accessible and more often exchange a day of shopping for online shopping.

Little parking space

The majority of respondents (sixty percent) check where they can park near their destination. Sixteen percent of the respondents indicate that not being able to find a parking space is a reason to leave the car behind. Twelve percent also find it annoying if they have to park far from their destination. Finally, parking is not always easy. From the research commissioned by EasyPark It also appears that almost 3 in 10 Dutch people (28 percent) indicate that they find this too much hassle and therefore opt for a different mode of transport.

“It is clear that the Dutch experience many problems when parking their car. All the more reason for EasyPark to do our utmost to help our users park as cheaply and easily as possible.”
