From January to September this year, 224.944 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. According to figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC, this is 4,6 percent less than in the same period in 2021. Last month, the number of registrations actually increased by 4,8 percent compared to September last year.

BOVAG and RAI Association expect that in the whole of 2022 between 300.000 and 320.000 new passenger cars will be registered. Last year, the sector organizations still assumed 370.000 registrations for 2022. The numbers remain highly dependent on the extent to which manufacturers are able to actually deliver the large number of vehicles already ordered. The auto industry continues to struggle with supply problems due to global computer chip shortages, the war in Ukraine and other logistical disruptions.

Figures in the last two months seem to point to a positive turnaround
Last August and September, respectively, 9,2 and 4,8 percent more new cars were delivered than in the same months a year ago. Last month there were 25.792 registrations and that seems to indicate a cautious turnaround, as almost every month up to and including July a decrease was recorded compared to a year earlier.
