When Antwerp sleeps, there are still hundreds of taxis driving around.

Last week, four new BINs were started up at the district hall in Deurne. One of the new networks is the BIN Taxi. The new collaboration between the Antwerp taxi sector and the Antwerp police should ensure a more structural exchange of information about what is happening in the city.

Antwerp taxi drivers will from now on report irregularities, such as thefts or suspicious situations, to the police. According to Koen Van Oorschot, chairman of the Antwerp Provincial Taxi Union (APTU), the taxi drivers see a lot. When all of Antwerp is asleep, hundreds of cars are still driving around. The new collaboration between the Antwerp taxi sector and the Antwerp police should ensure a more structural exchange of information.

BIN

A BIN, or neighborhood information network, is a structural collaboration between local residents and the police, who keep each other informed of what is happening in the neighbourhood. This exchange of information creates more social control and increases the feeling of safety. If a BIN member notices a suspicious situation or behavior (for example, theft) in the neighborhood, he or she informs and informs the police. The police are investigating what's going on. She can send a patrol and/or send a BIN message to all members. A BIN message is distributed by telephone. The BIN members notify the police if they notice the suspect(s).
