Sunweb Group purchases 385.000 liters of sustainable aviation fuel ('SAF') from Neste, which actually reduces CO2 emissions.

Sunweb Group, the travel group with travel brands such as Sunweb, Eliza was here, GOGO and Primavera, today announces a partnership with Neste, the world's largest producer of sustainable jet fuel and renewable diesel. In the spring, the organization announced that it would no longer compensate for CO2, and that it would only invest in reducing the emissions of its own product. The money that is released as a result is now being invested in the partnership with Neste. Sunweb Group purchases 385.000 liters of sustainable aviation fuel ('SAF') from Neste, which actually reduces CO2 emissions. This makes the travel organization the first organization in the tourism industry without its own aircraft to take such an important step.

“We are aware that this is still a small amount, but at the same time it is an important step to make flying more sustainable. SAF is the most effective way to reduce our carbon footprint. Currently, less than 2% of all jet fuel worldwide is SAF. To reduce emissions from flying, the amount of SAF must be increased. With the new investment, we will ensure that all 0,1 million customers of Sunweb Group will fly with fewer emissions by 1 thanks to the extra 2022% SAF. With this investment we want to show that sustainability is a responsibility for everyone”

SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) is currently the most sustainable alternative to fossil aviation fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by up to 80% (Over the fuel life cycle and calculated using proven LCA life cycle assessment methodologies, including the CORSIA methodology) versus using fossil kerosene. The fuel that Sunweb Group purchases from Neste is made from sustainably purchased renewable waste and residual materials such as used frying fat. Sunweb Group and Transavia already announced in April that they would invest a joint sustainability budget in SAF. This collaboration will continue and the current investment being made at Neste will be added to it, according to Sunweb Group.

“Neste is committed to helping the aviation industry become more sustainable. Collaborating with innovative partners who think ahead and share our ambitions is essential in this regard. As one of the largest travel organizations in Europe, Sunweb Group has taken the responsibility to make their travel offer more sustainable by purchasing SAF itself. This makes it possible for their customers to fly with fewer emissions. Our collaboration is the first of its kind and we hope their example inspires other organizations. The world needs these kinds of pioneers to lead the way towards a more sustainable future.”
