In the business market, almost only electric scooters are sold. In 2022, the share of electric scooters in this market rose to 89%.

The sales analysis by RAI Association (Bicycle and Automotive Industry) for 2022 shows that the scooter is the fastest of all vehicles to become more sustainable. In the past two years, the share of electric mopeds and mopeds in new sales has more than doubled to half of total sales. In 2020, this share was still around 20%.

Last year this share was no less than 45% among mopeds and even 48% among light mopeds. This puts the electrification of the scooter market far ahead of the passenger car, van or motorcycle market. For example, the share of fully electric in new car sales is on average 23%. Although the number of newly sold mopeds increased, due to the introduction of compulsory helmets for light mopeds, the total number of scooters fell by 16% in 2022. The number amounted to 62.330 newly sold scooters.

“Electrification is expected to increase even further in the coming years.”

Scooter market has large annual sales fluctuations

The size of the market for new mopeds and light mopeds is characterized by large annual fluctuations. In the corona year 2020, the scooters sold particularly well.
