Assenede in East Flanders celebrated an international heroine today. Lotte Kopecky has put Assenede on the cycling map with her impressive victory during the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow. The Antwerp cyclist, who also lived in Schelle and Niel for a while, moved to Assenede a few years ago with her then partner and coach Kieran De Fauw.
Her performance during the Tour de Femmes has certainly not gone unnoticed in her adoptive municipality. Proof of this is the gigantic banner that is displayed at the town hall of Assenede. Everywhere you go is Lotte Kopeky the talk of the day. Rightly so! After her world title in Glasgow, Kopecky is now targeting next year's Olympic Games in Paris.
