The innovation does not stop at the platform itself. The platform furniture will also be updated where necessary.

Prorail strives to work as emission-free as possible during large-scale maintenance and platform work. This is made possible by the ProRail Perron Programme, which recently awarded the 'Sustainable Upgrading of Platforms' framework agreement. A remarkable first in the rail world.

During the contract, ProRail strives to further reduce the environmental impact of the concrete elements. Prorail is looking forward to working with the four contracted parties: De Wilde, Wallaard Noordeloos, Van Ooijen and Reimert. With a contract term of up to six years and a value of up to 70 million euros, the long-term collaboration with these four parties offers the opportunity to continuously learn from each other. Prorail wants to achieve this through regular project-transcending meetings. As a result, innovative working can be further promoted. The contract encourages the parties to work as emission-free as possible, which encourages them to apply innovative solutions throughout the contract period.

"I am extremely proud of the tender team and the Sustainability department, who have jointly achieved a groundbreaking contract. We recognize the need for a transition to zero-emission equipment, to reduce CO2, nitrogen and particulate matter emissions, as well as noise and odor nuisance from infrastructure projects. I am pleased that we can now also take steps in the field of sustainability with these partners during large-scale maintenance and platform work. Front runners who stick their necks out will be rewarded for this."

To align with ProRail's sustainability ambitions, a bonus-malus scheme has been included in the contract. In doing so, we are in line with developments in the market and we contribute to the objectives of the Clean and Emission-free Building roadmap. ProRail is working together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and Rijkswaterstaat to create more emission-free construction sites.

In the next three years, Prorail will renew the retaining walls and paving on approximately 50 station platforms. At the same time, the platforms will be brought up to standard to guarantee an accessible entry. Work will start in 2024 at stations such as Twello, Zetten Andelst, Opheusden, 't Harde and Dalen. By 2030, all station platforms must meet this standard. Where necessary, the platform furniture will also be renewed.

This innovation contributes to a clear and safe layout of the platforms, so that sustainable mobility is paramount, both now and in the future. By combining activities as much as possible, Prorail works more efficiently and limits the nuisance for travelers and local residents.
