The Netherlands is waiting anxiously and the natural ice rinks are ready for action.

Dutch skating fever is increasing as the winter cold approaches. Meteorologists predict temperatures between -5 and -9 degrees in various parts of the Netherlands in the coming week. This weather forecast has increased excitement among skating enthusiasts, with a growing interest in skating on natural ice.

Natural ice rinks, shallow ditches, flooded meadows and fens are expected to be the most important locations for skating enthusiasts. These areas provide ideal conditions for natural ice, making them a popular choice for skaters of all ages.

The effects of this skating fever are already visible in Almere. Local shops that sell and sharpen skates are experiencing an increase in demand. Shoemaker Martin in Almere Center reports a higher number of customers having their skates sharpened than normal. Sportpaleis 2000 has also noticed a significant increase in the sale of skates, especially the sliding blades for children. Scapino has also noted an increasing interest, although sales have not yet increased explosively.

However, this increase in interest is not without reservations. It is still uncertain whether the weather conditions will actually be suitable for skating on natural ice. However, this uncertainty does not stop skating enthusiasts from their enthusiasm and preparations for possible skating days. They remain optimistic and hope for favorable conditions to pursue their passion for skating on natural ice.

This period of preparation and anticipation highlights the deep-rooted cultural love for skating in the Netherlands, a tradition that spans generations and is deeply rooted in Dutch society. Skating on natural ice is not only a sporting activity, but also an important social event that brings people of all ages and backgrounds together.

If weather conditions remain favorable, Dutch waters will soon be home to a vibrant and joyful skating culture, a scenario that many Dutch people are eagerly awaiting.
