HEINEKEN announces the first electric freight transport to cross the border in collaboration with Einride.

HEINEKEN and Einride, two leading companies in beer brewing and electric freight transport technology respectively, have taken a groundbreaking step in making freight transport between the Netherlands and Germany more sustainable. By joining forces, they mark a significant milestone in the transition to decarbonized transport methods, with the ambition to significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

This collaboration, focused on the use of electric trucks powered by renewable energy, promises to achieve a reduction of 930 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This initiative is a first step towards achieving HEINEKEN's target of achieving net zero CO2040 emissions across their value chain by 2, with logistics accounting for a substantial 12% share of total emissions.

Arjen van der Woude, Director Strategic Sourcing Supply Chain at HEINEKEN, underlines the importance of decarbonization within the logistics sector as a crucial factor for achieving HEINEKEN's climate goals. He emphasizes the position of battery-electric transport as one of the most promising technologies for making road transport more sustainable. Van der Woude commends Einride for their expertise, network, and experience in offering end-to-end electric freight services, and recognizes their ability to unite different stakeholders within the logistics chain.

The implementation of the project involves the deployment of a fleet of five Mercedes eActros 300 electric trucks, which will transport ten freight loads daily between the HEINEKEN brewery in Den Bosch and the distribution center in Duisburg. The charging infrastructure, based on the Kempower charging solution and integrated with Einride's AI-driven operating system Saga, plays a crucial role in this operation. Saga will not only optimize routes and minimize energy consumption, but also closely monitor emissions reductions. This system promises a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, up to 95% compared to traditional diesel trucks, according to Einride.

HEINEKEN is the world's most international brewer and a leader in the development and sale of premium and non-alcoholic beer and cider brands.

Robert Ziegler, General Manager EMEA at Einride, emphasizes the shared ambition of Einride and HEINEKEN to reduce CO2 emissions. He sees HEINEKEN as an ideal partner in the joint mission to promote sustainable logistics that crosses country borders. This partnership not only promises to be a significant step forward in reducing the environmental impact of freight transport, but also to set an example for other companies to undertake similar sustainable initiatives.

This innovative collaboration between HEINEKEN and Einride is a clear signal to the industry and beyond that the transition to sustainable, decarbonized transport solutions is not only possible but also operationally feasible. With plans to expand this collaboration to other European countries, this initiative is on the cusp of a revolution in the way companies think about and act in the field of logistics and transport.
