In answer On the letter of September 26, 2019, Grapperhaus answered written questions from members Dijkstra and Yesilgöz-Zegerius (both VVD) about the message that the superfast police Audi is standing still. The Minister denies that the vehicles are stationary and indicates that all delivered vehicles are used for regular activities.

The activities to hunt down criminals require additional driver training. This driver training has been completed by employees in most units. Most vehicles can therefore also be used for these specific activities.

Training was only possible after delivery

The use of police vehicles in the specific work requires additional Audi driver training because of the higher cruising speed of the vehicles, which is above the industry directive. The availability of the vehicles is a precondition for this training, which means that training can only be started after the vehicles have been delivered.

“The quality of operational management at the police is a primary responsibility of the chief of police. That is why I have not been informed on this subject. In addition, the vehicles are already used for regular work. As a result, business operations have not been adversely affected, ”said Grapperhaus.

About 70 Audi cars are used for regular work, because the effort for which they were intended requires extra training. Road safety benefits from the optimal use of these vehicles. As indicated in the Minister's answer, all vehicles are in use and most vehicles are also used for the specific activities.

There is no question of Audi sales of these vehicles. The police are working to train enough people for the available cars in all units.
