The scope of services at Dutch airports is being sharply reduced as a result of global travel and flight restrictions to control the new corona virus (COVID-19). This takes into account the increasing parking requirement for aircraft of Dutch airlines.

In total, approximately one hundred and fifty aircraft belonging to Dutch companies are grounded indefinitely. Scaling the timetable is a complex operation and airlines plan when to park a particular aircraft. That leaves Minister Cora of  Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure) know.

Coordination is taking place between Royal Schiphol Group and the KLM Group in order to coordinate the scaling down of Schiphol and the removal of aircraft from the timetable. Schiphol currently expects that all KLM Group aircraft can be accommodated at Schiphol.

parking facilities at military air bases are not an issue

TUI and Corendon are themselves in consultation with the Dutch airports to make bilateral agreements with regard to parking and this is progressing well for the time being. The use of parking facilities at military air bases has been investigated and possibly found in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, but is not currently under discussion.

According to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen Wijbenga, Schiphol has assured that when drawing up the parking plan, priority is given to the airlines with Schiphol as their home base. In addition to the Dutch airlines, this also concerns a few EasyJet aircraft.

The parking process is organized in an orderly manner, so that emergency legislation is not currently needed. The other airports are free to rent out the (residual) capacity to third parties in order to also facilitate foreign airlines in solving problems.
