The corona crisis has major consequences for aviation and the parent company of Brussels Airlines. Lufthansa is intensifying the restructuring of Brussels Airlines and will close its subsidiary Germanwings. The board of directors of the German aviation group Lufthansa made some important decisions this afternoon.

According to the news agency Belga, Lufthansa would assume that even after the corona crisis significant reduction of air traffic would continue. Lufthansa is the German parent company of Brussels Airlines, among others, but also of Swiss, Austrian Airlines, and Air Dolomiti from Italy.

Lufthansa does not think that the aviation sector will soon return to pre-corona crisis levels. According to the company, it will take months before the global travel restrictions are lifted completely.

Brussels Airlines is not yet able to provide further details about any reduction in the airline. In the case of aviation, however, everything depends on the fleet, and in her view it is therefore not unusual for adjustments to be made there.

However, agreements still have to be made with the unions, says society. Lufthansa hopes to be able to give as many Germanwings staff as possible a different workplace within the Lufthansa Group. Since 2014, the airline has no longer operated under its own name, but under that of Eurowings.
