Monday, April 27, we all celebrate King's Day, Residence Day, Balcony Day or whatever you want to call it. One thing is certain, the King is celebrating his birthday. Because of the corona crisis, everyone is expected to stay at home as much as possible. But that does not detract from the festivities of King's Day because activities are organized throughout the country with which partygoers, both online and at a distance of one and a half meters, will not get bored.

The Royal Dutch Glockenspiel Association (KNKV) and the Oranjebond have made an agreement to work together to organize King's Day Home 2020. The city carillonneurs are going to 'Play for the King'. After all, King's Day is a wonderful opportunity to play the carillon.

On King's Day, anyone who wants to can also sing along to the Wilhelmus or play along with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The orchestra hopes to start this national holiday with a grand and positive gesture of solidarity in this difficult period. The Concertgebouworkest is calling on everyone who can to perform the Wilhelmus together on Monday 27 April at the stroke of 10.00.The musicians of the orchestra hope that as many people as possible will participate in the national anthem from the balcony, from the window or in the garden. sing along or play.

Of course there is also the official (national) program of the Orange Union. That starts in the morning with bells ringing as a sign of connection, sadness and joy. Around 10 o'clock, King Willem-Alexander, who celebrates his birthday at home instead of as planned in Maastricht, will give a short speech.

The Oranjebond has children up to 12 years old summoned to write a letter or make a drawing for King Willem-Alexander, to congratulate him and tell what the corona crisis is doing to them. Today it was announced that more than 1500 children have done so. The Oranjebond bundles all submissions in an e-book that will be presented to the king at 13.00 p.m. on King's Day.
