Aviation is one of the industries most affected by the corona pandemic. It is all the more important to encourage people to rely on flying as a safe route. Therefore, the Lufthansa Group has acceded to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) charter for safe flying in pandemic conditions. In doing so, it adheres to the strictest infection protection standards in air traffic worldwide. By voluntarily implementing this standard, the Lufthansa Group emphasizes that the safety of its passengers and employees is, as always, a top priority.

EASA prepares guidelines developed in collaboration with the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The Robert Koch Institute is a German representative of the ECDC network. With the involvement of all Member States, EASA, in collaboration with ECDC, was able to define the strictest rules in the world for association of states. Uniform standards have been drawn up that reduce complexity for airlines and generate reliability and extra safety.

The airports of Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Brussels have also committed themselves to the guidelines. This created an interlocking system to protect passengers on the ground and in the air. The Lufthansa Group guided the charter development process with the industry associations International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airlines for Europe (A4E) from the perspective of flying practice. Developed with the support of the Lufthansa Group. The Lufthansa Group is also implementing further protective measures such as the distribution of disinfectant wipes to all passengers or generous rebooking options for its passengers.

De Lufthansa Group will continue to closely monitor the development of the EASA / ECDC guidelines by sending its airlines key data and key figures to EASA. In addition, the Lufthansa Group will enter into a dialogue about the further development of the standards. Emphasis will be on the integration of new scientific and technical knowledge and operational experience in the implementation of the standards. The Lufthansa Group is committed to ensuring that other countries, airlines and airports around the world also apply EASA standards to ensure the most uniform possible framework conditions for travelers and to make a successful contribution to fighting pandemics such as whole.
