The king's vacation plans in Greece caused a lot of uproar in the media, precisely because cabinet members called on people this week not to make unnecessary trips. Those who go on holiday in the Netherlands, for example, are urged to stay in and around the holiday home. The decision of the king to go on holiday, therefore, causes a storm of criticism.

Just fly up and down with the PH-GOV to Greece to water the plants and return immediately afterwards. The king broke off his vacation, despite the royal couple's holiday home being in yellow territory and so it was technically allowed to make the trip according to the corona rules.

“We don't want to leave any doubts about it: to get the COVID19 virus under it, it is necessary to follow the guidelines. The discussion on the occasion of our holiday does not contribute to that ”, says the king.

strong criticism against Rutte

In the meantime, the MPs tumbled over each other to express strong criticism of the holiday. Prime Minister Mark Rutte should have warned King Willem-Alexander that his holiday to Greece should have been canceled in view of the tightened corona measures. GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver wants to know from Mark Rutte whether he knew about the holiday plans, and if so, why he did not recommend them.

The Government Information Service has since confirmed that Rutte was indeed aware of the trip. The Government Information Service (RVD) did not want to make any statements about the king's holiday on Friday afternoon, because this was a private matter. Clover called the king's departure for Greece “an error of judgment”, his immediate return the “only correct decision”.
