Winter is approaching, for some of us this is a relief and for others a punishment. Last weekend the clock went back an hour, from summer time to winter time. In the mornings it is earlier light and in the evening it is earlier dark. In these dark months it is therefore important that your bicycle lighting works properly. Well-functioning bicycle lighting is very important for road safety. It is also very nice for your own comfort on the road that your lighting works well. Without good lighting on your bike on dark roads, accidents are likely.

 

"Incomprehensible, ”says RAI Association chairman Steven van Eijck. “Many cyclists are still insufficiently aware of the danger they run when they are not clearly visible or cannot see properly themselves. And the importance of good bicycle lighting is only increasing now that the days are getting shorter again and more and more people are using the bicycle due to corona. Bicycle lighting with the RAI Quality Mark Bicycle lighting stands for quality and ensures a high degree of visibility and visibility. And especially at the point of view, a lot of lighting is insufficient. It is not for nothing that the national government has now also referred to the RKF quality mark in its bicycle lighting campaign 'On'. ”

Not everyone understands the importance of good bicycle lighting. According to the RAI Association, 20 percent of accidents take place in the dark. According to them, this could decrease by 20 percent if cyclists use high-quality bicycle lighting. According to the RAI Association, only 62 percent of cyclists cycle with front and rear light. Good bicycle lighting is therefore literally of vital importance. That is why RAI Association recently launched the campaign Look further started. They want to reduce the number of bicycle casualties in traffic. 

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has also recently launched a campaign on the importance of good bicycle lighting. This campaign is called: 'ON in the dark'. In this campaign, the government works together with other parties. Municipalities, Provinces, ANWB, TeamAlert, VVN, Fietsersbond, Police, RAI Association, Bovag and ROV also contribute to convey the message of the importance of good bicycle lighting.

 

Van Nieuwenhuizen: 'The days are getting shorter and despite corona people have to cycle in the dark for school or work. And then it's about seeing and being seen. So: go ON in the dark, turn on your lights and come home safely. '
