A train ticket will become more expensive with the NS from January. Earlier, the Dutch Railways reported that they will adjust the timetable again this month to 90 percent of the normal timetable. This is because there are fewer travelers due to the corona crisis and to avoid having to make adjustments to the timetable in the meantime due to absenteeism by staff. A train ticket will also become more expensive with effect from 1 January 2021, the NS reports on their website. The prices of a train ticket for a single journey and day return and season tickets will become approximately 1,5 percent more expensive. This is due to the expected inflation in 2021. Costs for, for example, the maintenance of trains will also increase due to inflation.

A one-way and one-day return train ticket for the second class will be approximately 1,5 percent more expensive and a one-way and one-day return train ticket for the first class will be approximately 2,6 percent more expensive. This increase is somewhat higher because the rates for a first-class train ticket have not been increased for two years. The price of a train ticket for the international train is also rising slightly, these will become about 1 percent more expensive, but the Early Bird rates for the intercity Brussels and the cheap and most sold train ticket for Germany that fall under the Sparpreise remain the same. They do this to offer an attractive alternative to the plane and the car.
