A unilateral accident took place at the Hegedyk in Weidum on Saturday evening just after 20.00 p.m. It concerned a passenger bus that got off the road for unknown reasons and ended up in the adjacent ditch. For the bus driver (63) from the municipality of Veendam, the assistance no longer avail. Around half past eleven Saturday evening, the message arrived that all help was no longer of use.

The Grone bus was used by Arriva on Saturday evening as a replacement transport due to work on the track. During the dramatic accident, four passengers were on the bus. Further police investigation should reveal how the bus could get off the road. We wish everyone a lot of strength, including the social workers in taking care of the family.

The Green

If trains cannot run on an NS train route due to construction works or a calamity, buses are used. These buses run on a fixed timetable. The bus in question is not unknown to tourists in the region. For a journey through the province of Groningen and far beyond, The Grone bus was often used for groups of up to 50 people. The bus was used as a train replacement transport because there are no trains running all weekend between Leeuwarden and Stavoren.
