In the dark days before Christmas, have to spend the night along the road in a business park. Without shower or toilet, completely on your own. That is the reality for many truck drivers. Also at the Lage Weide business park in Utrecht. To encourage them, Josien van Breda of Park Management Lage Weide surprised them with a Christmas package full of good food, drinks and other presents. In doing so, she draws attention to the harsh conditions of the drivers and the nuisance caused by this. Her solution: “a special parking lot for trucks with good facilities”.

Pity

Van Breda sympathizes with the truck drivers who are parked here and there at night in Lage Weide: “They work very hard to deliver goods on time. Also for supermarkets, healthcare institutions and hospitals. In this corona crisis it is extra hard work for them, but because of the measures they can no longer go to roadside restaurants. That makes it extra poignant. ” Van Breda emphasizes that the problem is greater than the temporary corona measures: “it is a structural problem. Our business park simply lacks a decent public truck parking area! ”

Solution

Trucks and trailers are currently parked in various unwanted places. This is no longer possible, according to Van Breda: “By setting up a parking area for trucks, the nuisance from the streets of the business park can be kept out and trailers can be parked at a designated location. That is better for truck drivers and also for the people who now have to cycle past the trucks parked here and there in the dark. And so we can also keep our site tidy. Don't forget: about 18.000 people work at Lage Weide. They must all be able to travel safely and pleasantly to and from their work. Whether you are in a truck or on your bike! ”

Park management

The foundation Park management Lage Weide was established to further improve the business climate in the Lage Weide business park. Clean, complete and safe, with attention to the labor market, accessibility and community. So that the more than 800 companies on the site can contribute daily to healthy urban life in Utrecht. Partly for this reason, the foundation also receives ERDF subsidy from the European Union.
