The Netherlands is locked up, almost everyone is at home, just before the holidays. For PostNL it is normal during this period already busy times, but now it is almost impossible to keep up, especially now that all unnecessary stores are closed. Everyone now orders absolutely everything online because fun shopping is not possible until at least 19 January. People also send each other a lot more cards and letters in these harsh corona times, a kind of greeting through the letterbox.

Resi Becker, Mail Nederland director of PostNL: “Many people want to support each other in these difficult times. We are proud that we can contribute to this and are happy to do so. 30.000 colleagues work hard every day to collect, sort, prepare and deliver a lot of mail. We do everything we can to drop millions of cards and letters on the mat every day, sometimes that might happen a little later due to the busyness. ”

PostNL reports on their website that since the Lock down in the Netherlands, they have delivered more than fourteen million cards and letters and 1,7 million parcels per day to people's homes. These are unimaginable amounts, and that is more than double the average day at PostNL. It is very busy and everywhere you see the PostNL vans, loaded with parcels, from early morning until late at night. You can also see the deliverers on bicycles busy delivering mail everywhere in the streets. To keep this process running smoothly, PostNL has deployed two extra delivery days and deployed extra letterbox inquiries on Sundays and all mail sorting centers are also open on Sundays and the work is longer.
