Volunteers from the Fietsersbond Routeplanner map out various data. The work is a combination of field research and computer input. So if you are handy with computers, can work meticulously and like to work in a structured way, you are probably the right candidate. You don't have to be a seasoned cyclist, but it is useful if you are well versed in your own environment. Hundreds of volunteers work to build and maintain the planner throughout the Netherlands. That requires you to be able to work independently.

You decide when you work on the planner and how much time you spend on it. If you are just starting out, learning to work with the editor takes a relatively long time. The fact that you work independently does not mean that you have to figure everything out yourself. The Fietsersbond Routeplanner is a project of the Fietsersbond, the advocate of cyclists in the Netherlands. They have 31.000 members, 150 local chapters and 1800 volunteers across the country and are working on more and better cycling facilities.

There is a lot of cycling in the Netherlands. In no other country with a comparable prosperity level is so much cycled. On this page we collect the most striking, interesting and recent figures in the field of cycling. In total, the Dutch cycle about 15 billion kilometers per year. That is more than 880 kilometers per person, divided over approximately 250 to 300 bicycle rides. This makes the bicycle good for almost a quarter of our trips.
