Shell develops hydrogen pumping stations, because the large-scale introduction of clean hydrogen cars seems to be getting closer. They are also working on a municipal level: the South Holland village of Stad aan 't Haringvliet wants to switch completely to green hydrogen by 2025, and the province of Groningen is in good spirits sketching a plan for a new, natural gas-free future with hydrogen.

Since solar or wind energy is difficult to store, these do not seem suitable alternatives yet. Hydrogen can help with that. There are already many experiments with hydrogen, by large and small parties. For example, The Hague already has a large number of taxis drive around on hydrogen. Gasunie is investigating how they can produce sustainable green hydrogen from solar energy and grid operator Tennet wants to store energy in the North Sea (on so-called hydrogen islands). Shell is developing hydrogen pumping stations, because the large-scale introduction of clean hydrogen cars seems to be getting closer.

Director Robert van Hattum has been involved with hydrogen since the XNUMXs. He saw that a switch to hydrogen gas was described as the key to a smooth energy transition, but that few steps were taken in practice on a large scale. That must and can be done otherwise: a 'hydrogen delta plan' will only really make sense. The Netherlands does not dare to take the step. It's about time for one deltaplan.
